Low noise
flying

Grenchen Airport is aware that aircraft noise is caused (or music, depending on your point of view). In co-operation with the authorities, pilots and associations, the airport team does everything in its power to keep noise pollution to a minimum. Our active philosophy is to promote mutual understanding between pilots and the public. By providing targeted information, as in the following examples, we work towards a respectful and understanding relationship.

Aircraft noise-
REDUCTION

Although pilots learn to fly as quietly as possible during their training, there is still potential for improvement in the area of aircraft noise reduction. In order to create a standardised basis for this, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), together with the Aero Club of Switzerland and Limamedia GmbH, have produced a CD as a teaching aid for pilots. Thanks to the CD entitled “Aircraft Noise Reduction”, all pilots and flight students will be able to learn at home on screen how to operate an aircraft with as little noise as possible without neglecting safety.

All aspects of the generation and reduction of aircraft noise are covered, from the acoustic basics and technical measures to the options available to pilots. At the end there is the opportunity to test what you have learnt in a short test. The CDs will be sent to all previously certified pilots. New pilots can order the CD free of charge from the FOCA at [email protected].
