PILOT-
TRAINING
The ideal starting point
Being a training aerodrome is in Grenchen Airport’s DNA. It is a true centre of excellence for flight training. Commercial, professional, military and private pilots are trained here. There are no fewer than 10 flying schools here, including two large ones, the Grenchen Flying School and the European Flight Academy, the Lufthansa Group’s flying school. Rega and the Swiss Air Force also rely on Grenchen as a centre of excellence and provide training here. Together with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), Grenchen offers the Pilot FH degree. Pilots who have trained in Grenchen go on to fly for Swiss, Edelweiss, the Swiss Air Force or in business aviation.
Grenchen Airport gained its reputation as an ideal training ground due to the high number of aircraft movements, the mix of sectors, the frequently used tower frequency with and without air traffic controller services and the challenging topography at the southern foot of the Jura.
